Bring the outside in with Sainsbury's
Decorate your home in botanical style with Sainsbury's latest homeware collection
Foliage is hot this season. Although interior design has been positively brimming with all things green for some time, the trend has now veered away from last autumn's painterly florals in favour of fresher botanicals, according to Andrew Tanner, Head of Home Design at Sainsbury's. What we are seeing today is a sophisticated, fashion-led take on conservatory style.'
Sainsbury's new homeware collection is perfect for creating this look as it is packed full of brilliant botanicals that make it a cinch to bring the outdoors in. To get a handle on the trend, think a dash of Victorian palm house, with botanical illustrations and brass finishes which, when combined, beautifully transforms the home into a tropical haven,' says Andrew.
Vibrant greens obviously take centre stage in this nature-inspired look and you shouldn't be afraid to mix and match different shades, from sober moss green to chic Persian and blue-infused teal, with a burst of dashing, bold yellow-infused green as the perfect accent.
Texture also plays an important part here. Layer woven throws and embroidered cushions, add patterned vases in chic shades of green and blue, and make wood your backdrop of choice for a rich, natural feel. A display of plants or even single branches will create a stunning focal point that's bang on trend - ferns work especially well for this.
Of course, the botanical look instantly conjures up visions of the Victorian era, when interest in plants boomed and intrepid British explorers scoured the world to bring home exotic specimens. Add a spot of nostalgia to your scheme with vintage horticultural illustrations and metallic lanterns - Sainsbury's stocks a fabulous hexagonal one with matching hanging frame and trinket box (which can double up as a pretty terrarium).
Tie off the look with a display of botanical candles for a touch of romance in keeping with the theme.
