Give your home a Moroccan vibe with Sainsbury’s
Give your home a Moroccan makeover with Sainsbury's new Moroccan Blue homeware collection
Striking and exotic, a touch of Morocco is a fantastic way to breathe new life into your home. This trend is all about bold geometrics, rich textures and a stylish blue and white palette that's ideal for summer and is very easy to pull off - especially now that Sainsbury's has launched a new homeware collection that's teeming with gorgeous, Moroccan-themed products.
'The timeless pairing of classic blue and white invites us to embrace summer style,' says Design Manager Andrew Tanner. 'We've updated it by looking further afield for our inspirations, to the city of Casablanca, picking up prints and patterns from elaborate tile work, ikat and batik fabrics. This melting pot of influences has resulted in a collection of beautiful ceramics inspired by decorative textiles that you might readily expect to find in the souks of Morocco.'
The timeless combination of midnight blue, crisp white and dark teal keeps the Moroccan scheme fresh and can easily be incorporated into your home with plenty of vibrant prints and gorgeous fabrics. Ombré designs - in both textiles and glass - are ideal to add instant visual interest.
To create a true Moroccan feel, however, you also need to bring in pattern and texture - lattice, diamond or stripe motifs, alongside embroidery, tassels and intricate knits. Look for cushions, throws and bed linen, but don't limit yourself to soft furnishings alone. Think patterned vases or exquisitely carved wood boxes, frames and latticed mirrors. Tiles featuring ethnic designs are ideal to create a stunning feature wall in your bedroom, study or living room.
Play up the exotic atmosphere with lighting. Pair souk-style lanterns with romantic candles tucked into wirework candleholders and group them strategically on a coffee table or a dresser to create a beautiful focal point.
Finish off the look with small but gorgeous details, such as ethnic-style crockery, geometric table runners and even Moroccan-inspired stationery.
