Alison Davidson

Alison Davidson has been working as an interiors and lifestyle journalist for over 30 years. She has been Homes and Gardens Editor of Woman & Home magazine and Interiors Editor of House Beautiful magazine, she has also freelanced and worked for most of the interiors magazines at one time or another. She is currently embracing the move to digital using the same knowledge and expertise to produce high quality features.

She attended London College of Fashion studying Fashion Journalism where she won the Philippa Murley Award for Student of the Year and worked briefly in fashion before switching to homes, becoming Deputy Homes Editor for Living magazine. She is well-known in the industry and is known as a safe pair of hands, getting features in on time and to the required standard.

Where is your happy place?

I love being by the sea, especially abroad – I don’t like the cold! Walking on the beach and swimming in the sea is one of life’s pleasures.

What’s your home addiction?Upcycling and making things, I like to buy an old piece of furniture and do it up and I am a bit obsessed with making quilts! And cushions. I recently embellished an IKEA cushion cover with some embroidered trim from an old dress. I hate waste.What is your next home project?

A couple of things, I want to put grey cloud wallpaper on the ceiling in the bedroom and I want to paint the double doors that lead from the dining room to the office. I painted a dresser in Charlotte’s Locks by Farrow & Ball and I like it so much, I want to do the doors now.
