There are two types of shower head - fixed or hand-held. A fixed shower head needs to be installed in the wall or the ceiling, while a new hand-held design can usually be screwed onto the existing hose. Some restrict the water flow by injecting air into the stream, or by pulsing the water flow, which is undetectable to the user but still saves water. In hard-water areas, look for models with nozzles that have a plastic head rather than metal to make removing limescale easier.
