From boring to beautiful, take a look at this bathroom makeover on a shoestring
Looking to transform your bathroom? Take a look at this seaside-themed transformation which features plenty of budget-friendly ideas
The tenants of this one-bed bungalow in Suffolk wanted to transform their boring bathroom into a pretty space that reflected its seaside surroundings.
Simple white sanityware, cheaps taps, exposed pipework and horrible vinyl tiles made the room look dated and dreary.
The makeover
Inspired by a photograph they took of their local pier in Felixstowe, the owners decided to create a coastal theme in their bathroom. They blew up their photograph and turned it into a large poster ready to paste to the wall. After sealing with varnish the owners realised what a stunning change it made to the room and decided to base the rest of the scheme around the image.
After aquiring some wood panels from a neighbour, the owners spent hours cleaning and sanding each piece of wood, before finally laying it over the vinyl floor tiles. They painted the cladding a pale grey wash for a weathered look.
To keep costs down, the owners kept as much of the old bathroom suite as possible. A major change came when they decided to box in the cistern of the toilet which concealed all the old pipework. The built in cupboard above was a great addition as it meant that they had much-needed storage space - ideal for housing toiletries and towels.
After replacing the bath and finishing off with panelling, the room started to take shape. Painting the wall at the end of the bath in a bold sea-blue colour added a vibrant touch. New chrome taps for the bath and basin helped to lift the scheme.
Now the owners have a wonderful seaside-inspired bathroom which looks warm and inviting. Large striped towels and a porthole mirror help to complete the scheme
