Patriotic palettes: Red and white decorating schemes for St George’s Day
Transform your home into a patriotic homage on this most English of days
Forget The Boat Race, the Grand National, the Queen’s second birthday and strawberries and cream (although they do work perfectly with the colour scheme we’re aiming for), when it comes to archetypal English events, St George’s Day is up there with the best.
With the cross of St George in mind, we’ve found some of our favourite schemes incorporating the classic red and white combination.
Enjoy a sumptuous soak in scarlet
The classic suite in this bathroom adds a sophisticated edge to this bright room. Pair stark whites against a vibrant shade of red to create a striking colour combination that works perfectly.
Play with patterns
Decorating in one colour palette is a perfect way to incorporate multiple patterns into your scheme. Chooses different hues of the same shade to add depth and interest. Elements of white will break up the scheme and prevent red overwhelming the room.

A raspberry red sofa against a pale blue background creates an element of added interest in this modern space. Patterned cushions in a different hue bring white into the scheme, which is continued both in the rug and the mirror.
Add accessories
You don’t have to go for bright red walls to make a statement with scarlet – choose bright accessories against a white background for a show stopping space. This is also a great option if you’re a fan of following interior trends – you can swap out magenta for mauve as and when the mood takes you.
A little added interest
A neutral scheme can be pepped up with a few touches of poppy red – we love the striped design of this elegant bed frame in this gorgeous bedroom. Soft furnishings, accessories and fabric are great options when it comes to adding colour to a space.
