Create a room outside for a country garden retreat
Get your summer garden ready for relaxed entertaining with these project ideas...
The country garden is a wonderful outdoor retreat that can be enjoyed throughout the sun-kissed months for all kinds of summery rest and relaxation. Whether you're looking for fresh ways to entertain outside, or a secluded spot to sit and reflect, bring interior comfort outside with stylish and durable furniture.
Laid-back looks
For relaxed afternoons in the garden, copy living-room style in the open air. ‘The Casablanca range features comfortably low armchairs, two-and-three seaters with generous upholstery, and matching tables,' says Oliver Michels, Director, Garpa. The seating is made from weatherproof polyester fibre woven by hand on an aluminium frame.
Room for everyone
An extendable dining table is a sound investment. ‘It provides greater flexibility to cater for larger get-togethers,' says Nicola Gidlow, Buyer, Outdoor Living, John Lewis. ‘This design has a lovely weathered finish and, when extended, it will seat eight in comfort.
Ample shade
A large umbrella is a must-have for comfortable eating on sunny days. ‘This parasol is UV-resistant to protect from the sun's rays while ensuring the colour won't fade,' says Adam Daghorn, Lead Furniture Designer, Marks & Spencer. ‘The furniture is made from naturally water-reistant FSC eucalyptus and lacquered in a waterproof paint.
Time for two
Enjoy an aperitif beneath a tree with a friend. ‘The Armadillo is perfect for lounging and its adjustable pull-up hood has an easy-to-use mechanism that provides shade,' says Tina Mahony, Director, Go Modern. ‘And when the sun's gone down, its cocoon-like shape makes it a cosy retreat in the evening.'
