How an organised loft can actually lower your energy bills
The Loft Legs system is the secret weapon every attic owner needs
As summer comes to a close our attention starts to come inwards – and upwards. From packing away hot weather clothes and garden games to searching for your Halloween and Christmas items, the loft becomes a central focus of action.
Steps to a clutter-free loft
When it comes to getting your loft into order, it may seem tricky to know where to start. After all, the typical attic tends to be one dark, dangerous void with a sea of loft insulation, all lit by one dusty hanging light bulb. It’s not exactly the most inspiring of areas, so it’s no wonder that they’re all too often a dumping ground. This is where the clever products from Loft Leg come into play.
Let’s start with the fact that, unlike living areas in your home, the eaves probably doesn’t have shelves and storage to help you to display and organise your belongings. The Loft Ledge solution is a simple way to add more storage space to your attic.
Easily retrofitted to all standard modern trussed roofs, this system creates handy shelves in the otherwise wasted spaces between trusses above the insulation, and once you have the kit all you need is a screwdriver and a measuring tape to fix it into place, so no mess, fuss or waiting around for an installation appointment.
Into the light
Then there’s the lighting situation, which can be easily improved with two items from Loft Leg. The Loft Light couldn’t be much simpler – it’s an ultra bright, battery powered LED light that doesn’t need to be wired in, simply screwed to the nearest timber. The battery has a life of up to four years and illuminates instantly, so no more torches or table lamps on extension cords.
For an even brighter attic, look to the Loft Bulb, a three panel LED bulb that fits in a standard B22 Bayonet lamp holder. The panels can each be adjusted quickly up to 90º, so you can illuminate your loft with brilliant white light whatever shape or size it is.
Energy efficiency starts at the top
So, how can getting your loft into order do more than simplify your life and, in fact, help lower energy costs? Well, with the namesake product, the Loft Leg, to start. This innovative and unique solution creates a raised loft floor above 270mm of insulation. While this of course gives you the perfect base to walk around on and create your perfectly organised space, the really clever bit is that the design means that your insulation doesn’t get compressed underneath the floor, even with boxes of up to 25kg on top. Compressing insulation will actually reduce its thermal properties by more than 50%, so adding Loft Legs means you’re maximising the effectiveness of your existing insulation. And that’s all done with a breeze of a self-installation for a low price.
Another nifty product from the brand is the Loft Lid, these are installed over downlights fitted into an attic floor. Sealed with silicone, these prevent air leakage around your light fittings which means you’re not losing heat through the holes and gaps that exist to give you lighting in the rooms below. It also creates a heat-protective barrier so you can layer insulation over the lights without the risk of them overheating or causing safety issues. Plus, as a bonus they also act as a pest and insect seal too, which is always welcome, especially come winter!
If you’re ready to create a perfectly organised loft while enjoying a better insulated home, then now’s the time to explore the Loft Leg product range and get sorted before the days get any chillier.
