This amazing kitchen makeover will ‘Shaker’ you up
See how one couple turned a pokey kitchen into an awesome social space that comfortably fits 30 guests for a fabulous feast.
The owners needed a practical space to house their large family so decided to turn a small, dated room into a show-stopping contemporary Shaker kitchen/diner for both cooking and socialising.
Before:
This tiny galley kitchen hadn't had its layout changed for over 100 years. With very little storage and social space it was time for a change.
After
The couple knocked through into their dining room and then extended out. Part of the back garden was sacrificed to create this impressvie large scale room. By excavating down they have created a wonderful high-ceilinged, open-plan kitchen with impressive island unit, breakfast bar and dining area with plenty of space for food preparation and entertaining.
Quality Shaker units have been fitted to create a modern, light filled space with warming wood and a stylish splashback of soft green metro tiles. The Amercian style fridge-freezer has been placed at the end of the run of cream units, while the range cooker sits in the central island, making the cooking process a social event. Urban touches like the super cool oak benches and trio of exposed pendant lights bring the look bang up-to-date.
Impressive bi-folding doors open the space up into the garden which is perfect for hosting garden parties and barbecues in warmer months.

Plenty of room for everyone
A huge rustic table was specially made to fit the new dining space in front of the trendy exposed brick wall. Benches instead of chairs allow more people to squeeze up onto it.
The old dining room couldn't take more than six people, but now their extended family of 30 guests fit in comfortably!
