7 DIY wall art ideas
Get your creative juices flowing and try your hand at these simple wall art projects, as chosen by Style at Home
If you're looking to give your walls a lift, what better way to add your own stamp than with a customised piece of wall art? Whether it's a modern piece for your living room you're after, or a handmade design for your craft room, these simple projects take next to no time and will instantly add a little homespun charm to your space.
1. Vinyl canvas
Set a woodland scene with this striking monochrome canvas, made from black and white vinyl. Start by covering the canvas with a piece of black vinyl and sticking down firmly. Cut tree shapes from white vinyl using a craft knife and cutting mat, then stick these onto the black, spacing to create your desired image.
2. Washi tape wall art
Go for a contemporary look with this punchy geometric design, achieved by simply sticking washi tape to a piece of white card. Mix and match different colours and patterned tapes to suit your style. See even more ideas for washi tape crafts.
3. Embroidery hoops
Try your hand at this no-sew fabric wall art idea - perfect for a cosy craft corner or a kids' bedroom. Simply pop the piece of fabric into the hoop and secure with PVA glue around the back edge. Cluster several hoops of different sizes and fabrics together for a striking focal point.
4. Polaroids frame
This Instagram-inspired design is great for displaying your photos in a fun and quirky way. Simply print the image and cut into a square shape, before mounting onto shiny white card to create a polaroid look-a-like. Use glue to attach string or twine behind the mount in the frame and hang your snaps onto the string using adorable miniature wooden pegs.
5. Stenciled canvas
Channel a tropical vibe with this DIY wall art idea, created using a funky pineapple stencil. We chose gold spray paint against a blue backdrop for a statement finish.
6. Ombre design
Head to your local DIY shop and collect a range of paint chips in a gradient of colours to create this on-trend ombre design. Use a large hole-punch to make a series of circles in the various shades and glue in place onto white card, starting with the darkest hue at the bottom and working up to a paler shade.
7. Butterfly frames
Give your bedroom walls a pretty makeover with this professional-looking framed design. Follow our cheat and cut out butterflies from a wallpaper sample, then stick in place with a dot of glue. You can play around with scrapbook papers for the backgrounds, too.
