Promotional feature with Brintons
For interiors that really wow, a beautifully crafted carpet is the perfect starting point. With the ability to inject instant flair while cleverly anchoring a scheme, a well-chosen design offers personality as well as comfort and longevity.
Carpet specialist Brintons combines heritage and expert know-how with creative vision to produce designs that are directional and beautifully detailed. The brand’s latest collaboration with Laura Ashley features 12 new Axminster designs including soft blossoms, smart stripes, elegant scrolls, damask patterns and bold blooms.
All designs have been selected from Laura Ashley’s vast archive and translated into striking carpets. The brand's strong heritage of creating bold and beautiful prints has been brought to life, honouring its tradition while offering current, directional new shades and colourways.
‘We’ve included bestsellers and heritage designs from this iconic British brand, and added a unique twist,’ says Jodie Hatton, creative designer at Brintons. If you prefer a more subtle scheme underfoot, you can choose from the four gentle hues of the new Bell Twist collection of plain carpets, from a neutral grey to a feminine dusky pink.
The result is a collection that marries the best of iconic British design with expert craftsmanship while design-led shades provide a fresh take on iconic patterns. Choose bold lilac blossoms in a bedroom, an ornate trellis design in a hallway or dining room, and delicate florals for a natural feel in a living room.

In a bedroom, experiment with pattern
Enquire online: Agnes carpet in Charcoal, £74.99 per sq m, Brintons
Step into designing a beautiful bedroom with your feet first. Far from treating flooring as an afterthought, consider its impact before planning decor and furniture. ‘If you’re redesigning a room, work from the ground up,’ says Jodie. ‘A floor should act as both a natural focal point and a foundation for creativity.’
The bedroom is your personal sanctuary, and is therefore the perfect place to express yourself.
A dark, flower-strewn carpet will help lend depth to an otherwise restful palette. The Agnes carpet in Charcoal is ideal matched with a soft, dove-grey bedhead, silver bedspreads, and pretty floral-print cushions.
The sumptuous, rich carpet is the decadent, unifying piece that brings the whole look together.
In a hallway, choose a design that's neutral and hardwearing
Enquire online: Ironwork Scroll carpet in Dove Grey, £74.99 per sq m, Brintons
First impressions count, and the hallway is the opportunity to offer a warm – and awe-inspiring – welcome to your home.
It’s easy to make a stylish entrance with a high-quality carpet. Which print will work best? A classic scroll design, like the Ironwork Scroll carpet in Dove Grey creates a timeless appeal. Or opt for the Herringbone Stripe in Natural, for classic yet contemporary elegance.
As well as style, there has to be substance, and a durable wool carpet from Brintons is an excellent choice for a heavy-traffic area such as this. At its Worcestershire base, the company, founded by William Brinton in 1783, harnesses the power of wool shorn from British sheep to create uniquely hardwearing carpets, renowned for their beauty as well as their durability.
It was in the Fifties that Brintons hit upon the perfect blend of softness and durability by weaving its carpets with a combination of 80 per cent wool and 20 per cent nylon, creating wool-rich flooring with the benefit of added resilience. Today, the company, which holds a Royal Warrant, still uses this unique blend to showcase the beauty of wool in a long-lasting form.
In a living room, comfort is key
Enquire online: Iona carpet in Duck Egg, £74.99 per sq m, Brintons
Your living room is where you relax at the end of the day, and should be a stylish yet calming and comfortable space.
A natural product, wool has been prized for hundreds of years for its warmth and comfort. With the current emphasis on natural materials, not only is wool a sustainable choice for flooring, it also helps to insulate the home and provides luxury underfoot.
Jodie explains: ‘The fleece from one in nine British sheep is used to make a Brintons carpet. Its low lustre, highly crimped nature results in a unique product, known for its bulk, resilience and overall comfort.’
Soft, scattered blooms will complement natural wooden furnishings and accent pieces, and look fantastic paired with contrasting prints like stripes. Try the Iona carpet in Duck Egg, £74.99sq m, Brintons. Looking for something truly decadent and sophisticated? A French-inspired damask print is oh-so-chic. The Annecy in Soft Truffle, £74.99sq m, Brintons, is the last word in understated luxury, combing a bold heritage print with a calming colour.
In a dining room, carpet can be cool and contemporary
Enquire online: Winchester Gold carpet, £74.99 per sq m, Brintons
If the kitchen is the heart of the home, the dining room is the pulse; full of life and vibrancy, it’s where fun-filled family get-togethers and sociable dinner parties take place.
Add cutting-edge style to every occasion with a cool, statement carpet. The warm hues of the Winchester Gold carpet promise many an ambient evening around the dining table, and the modern take on a traditional trellis print nods to design know-how.
For an ultra-sleek look, that doesn’t compromise on comfort or durability, try the plain Bell twist carpet and opt for a timeless but trend-led hue like Dusky Heather or Pearl Grey for a thoroughly modern finish. Eating in has never looked so stylish.
The collaboration with Laura Ashley is the latest in an impressive line of partnerships Brintons has enjoyed, having previously teamed up with Timorous Beasties and Studio Elke. With design-led carpets currently undergoing a revival, it’s never been easier to gain inspiration for your own home. Browse the Brintons website to request carpet samples and to discover the full product range, including the new Laura Ashley collection.
In addition, designs are available to view ‘in-situ’, enabling you to easily visualise your space. After all, when designing a new scheme from the ground up, what better place to start than with a beautiful new carpet?
