Sophisticated beauty: Katharine Hepburn’s former Connecticut summer house is on the market for £9 million
The Hollywood star’s former home on the banks of Long Island Sound is now up for sale – and this elegant property is quite a sight to behold
Star of the silver screen Katharine Hepburn was known for her breathtaking beauty (that hair, those cheekbones!) and spirited attitude - so it came as no surprise to us to find that she chose an equally elegant home as her summer retreat.
Her former house, situated in Old Saybrook on the banks of Long Island Sound in Connecticut, is now up for sale for $14.8 million (£9 million).
This is the home where Katharine spent her summers - and it doesn't disappoint.
The
house is in an idyllic location, with three acres of conservation land
and a pond across from the entrance. It has 15 rooms, including six
bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The property was renovated in 2005 by New York builder Frank Sciame and now features a timeless interior.
The New-England style entrance hall has huge white-painted staircases
(just perfect for a leading lady to glide down, ready to meet
guests).

Step in to the kitchen and there's gorgeous pale grey cabinetry with sparkling marble surfaces.
In the coastal-style bedroom there are amazing views across the Sound.
From the Long Island Sound side of the property there are beautiful views of the jetties and Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse.
But Hollywood glamour aside, for us, all it took was one look at the waterside view from the dock, and we were sold.
