These clever Netflix socks pause your favourite show when you fall asleep!
Never miss your favourite TV moment again with these genius foot warmers
We've all done it. You begin watching your favourite series late at night but 14 episodes and five bags of popcorn later you're desperately trying to fight off sleep.
With just one eye open and a head that will not stop rolling, you admit defeat.
Next minute...bang! You've dropped off to sleep and all the while your favourite show is carrying on to a sleeping audience.
Well, Netflix has found the solution!
The new Netflix sock allows you to drift off to sleep whilst pausing the TV for you - no longer will you miss your favourite scene or laugh out loud moment! All you need is a pair of socks and a simple electronic device.
Here's how to make your socks...

Knit yourself a pair of socks (movie design templates available from Netflix) or just get yourself down to M&S and buy any old pair.
Step 2
Understand the complicated part behind the mechanics of the sock. The sleep sock detects when you've stopped moving, then sends a signal to the TV and pauses it. Just before it's about to stop the TV it gives off a little red flash and gives you the chance to wiggle that ankle should you have just been sitting still, tense at a momentous scene!
Step 3
Gather your materials (does anyone feel like they are back in the lab at school?). For this experiment you will need:
- Knit socks
- Arduino microcontroller
- IR LEDs
- LED indicator light
- Battery
- Momentary button
- Accelerometer
- 12" x 12" piece of felt
Step 4
Now it's time to build the electric circuit. Don't be alarmed - Netflix has provided a simple step-by-step article here.
Step 5
Set up your signal by telling the device if you would prefer to pause, stop or turn off the TV.
Step 6
Now it's time to do a little techy programming. AGAIN, fear not - there's a simple Netflix guide here!
Step 7
Cover the scary looking device in some soft felt to be kind to your skin and slot it down the side of the sock. This part's easy!
Step 8
Now just sit back, relax and even fall asleep!
