Craft corner: How to make small decorative bowls out of salt dough
We show you how to make and decorate pretty bowls using salt dough in a few simple steps.
Follow our step-by-step guide to learn how to make pretty decorative bowls using salt dough.
Step 1: Place 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt and 1 cup of water into a mixer, and mix together to form a firm dough.
Step 2: Wrap the dough in cling film and set aside to rest for 40 minutes.
Step 3: Dust flour on to a sheet of greaseproof paper.
Step 4: Take for sections of the dough and roll into different sized balls.
Step 5: Roll out the large ball into a disc and make an impression using cut glass, before using a clutter to cut a circle around the edge.
Step 6: Roll out the next ball into a disc and use a serrated cookie cutter to cut into shape.
Step 7: Roll out the next ball, make an impression and cut a disc from the centre with a small cookie cutter.
Step 8: Using a kebab skewer, make a single hole through the centre of the smallest ball (so it looks like a bead). Use a straw to make three holes in a line in each of the other discs - one in the middle and one on either side.
Step 9: Bake in the oven at 110 degrees for 4-5 hours until completely dry.
Step 10: Using a hairpin, thread a ribbon through each of the holes - starting with the smallest pieces and working up to the biggest disc. Tie around your curtain for a decorative detail.
