Simple Solutions: Decorate bottles with washi tape
Customise plain accessories using decorative tape.
Customise plain accessories using decorative tape. Ideal Home’s Style Editor Alice shows you how to upgrade clear glass bottles with Japanese-style washi tape.
Step 1: To add a panel of pretty wrapping paper to a plain bottle, measure the circumference of the bottle and height of the area you want to cover.
Step 2: Mark out these measurements on a scrap piece of wrapping paper and cut out, adding a 1cm overlap to the circumference measurement.
Step 3: Stick a tab of double-sided tape to the wrong side of one end of the paper. Wrap the paper around the bottle and stick in place.
Step 4: Run a short length of decorative around the top edge of the paper.
Step 5: Cut a length of baker’s twine, tie it around the bottle below the decorative tape and tie in place for a finishing touch.
Top tip: you can buy decorative tape in crafts or stationery stores and it is available in a range of colours and styles. Look out for transparent tapes, which are perfect for using on clear glass accessories.
